Knox County reaches 292 felony indictments for year

The Office of Knox County Prosecuting Attorney Chip McConville reached 292 felony indictments for the year with the 10 recent indictments passed down by the Knox County Grand Jury on Nov. 16.

Logan T. Weaver, 25, of Danville, was indicted on one count of rape and one count of aggravated burglary, a release from McConville’s office said.

Robert L. Swint, 38, of Mount Vernon, was indicted for attempted aggravated arson, two counts of felonious assault and two counts of attempted murder, the release said. On the night of Nov. 13, Swint is alleged to have attempted to burn down a tent shelter where two people were sleeping, then to have struck one of the individuals with a machete.

Two individuals— Randy A. Wilhelm, 54, and Robert T. Balcom, 29, both of Mount Vernon— were indicted on domestic violence charges, the release stated. 

Wilhelm was also indicted on counts of felonious assault and bribery for allegedly offering money to a witness, the release said. He was additionally indicted for menacing by stalking and intimidation of an attorney in a criminal case.

Balcom was also indicted for having a firearm while prohibited due to a previous domestic violence conviction, the release reported.

Matthew S. Adams, 26, of Mount Vernon, was indicted for failure as a convicted sex offender to register a change of address.

Based on an incident in which he is alleged to have led Mount Vernon Police on a 100-mph chase, Ronald E. Hoeflich Jr., 40, of Mount Vernon, was indicted for failure to comply with the order of a police officer and conveyance of drugs into a detention facility, the release said.

Two indictments were for alleged possession of methamphetamine found during two separate traffic stops by Mount Vernon Police in October. The individuals indicted were Stephen Frost Jr., 32, of Portsmouth; and Derrik A. Moss, 29, of Mount Vernon, the release reported.

Christopher M. Deraleau, 31, of Columbus, was indicted for failure to comply with the signal of a police officer and operating a motor vehicle without a valid license, related to an attempted traffic stop by Mount Vernon Police, the release said. 

Officers allegedly attempted to stop Deraleau due to a covered license plate but had to pursue him, the release stated. Deraleau is alleged to have eventually fled his vehicle but was found hiding in bushes.

Kenneth E. Grubaugh, 52, of Mount Vernon, was indicted for improperly handling firearms in a motor vehicle, related to his alleged possession of a loaded pistol during an Ohio State Highway Patrol traffic stop.
