Knox Community Hospital (KCH) and several local postsecondary education institutions were recently awarded a portion of $425 million in COVID-19 relief funds from the state.

KCH is set to receive $1,817,088 as a grant, a press release from the office of State Rep. Rick Carfagna (R-Genoa Twp) said. Carfanga also noted KCH’s status as one of Ohio’s few remaining independent hospitals.

Approximately $62 million in funding was allocated to rural and critical access hospitals, the release stated.

“There are 70 rural and critical access hospitals across Ohio that have been working harder than ever on the front lines during the coronavirus pandemic,” Carfanga was quoted in the release. “They’re taking on serious responsibilities and tackling an extremely high volume of cases in a remarkable fashion.”

Approximately $100 million of additional funding was allocated to higher education institutions in the region.

Knox County institutions that were granted a portion of the $100 million include Knox Technical Center, which received $7,544; Kenyon College, which received $368,554; and Mount Vernon Nazarene University, which received $397,435, the release said. Nearby to the area, Delaware Area Career Center received $2,245 for its Adult Education program, and Central Ohio Technical College received $218,242.
