MOUNT VERNON – Knox Community Hospital recently acquired the da Vinci Xi surgical system and will be performing the first procedures during the last week of October. The Department of Specialty Care, General Surgery will be the first to perform surgical procedures using this fantastic new technology.
Despite being called a medical robot, the da Vinci is no R2-D2; it requires a human operator to control its actions. The da Vinci system is designed to assist in various minimally invasive procedures resulting in less pain, shorter hospital stays and quicker healing times.
During surgery, your surgeon sits at a console next to you and operates through small incisions using tiny, wristed instruments that can precisely grasp items, hold delicate objects. The da Vinci system translates every hand movement your surgeon makes in real-time to bend and rotate the instruments with detailed precision.
