MOUNT VERNON — Heaven has called another angel home. Oneida (Fisher) Sheffield Lawson, 92, of Mount Vernon left this life on Oct. 10, 2020. She was born in Coshocton; Oneida lived in Mount Vernon for over 85 years. She was a 1946 graduate of Mount Vernon High School, and was an active member and pianist at Mount Calvary Baptist Church for more than 60 years. Oneida was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. 

Surviving her are her five children — Gregg (Sandy) Sheffield, Karen Sheffield, Anika Debra Sheffield Harris, Ric (Ellen) Sheffield, and Lori (Shaun) Lawson Turner. Oneida will also be missed by her 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews, and friends. 

Oneida was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur Fisher and Bertha (Edwards) Fisher Hammonds, sisters Ina Mae Frederick and Mary Jane White, and husbands Sam Sheffield and George Lawson. 

The family appreciates your kind thoughts and prayers and requests respect for their privacy during their bereavement. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Oneida’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association or your local Hospice agency.  

Due to the pandemic, there will be no funeral service.
