Beginning Tuesday, Knox County Career Center (KCCC) will return to in-person instruction four days a week for all students.

Mondays will continue as remote learning and intervention/reinforcement/enrichment days, a KCCC news release said. The plan, however, may be changed at any time “based on external factors related to COVID-19” or updated guidance.

On in-person days, students must do a health assessment prior to coming to KCCC, the release stated. Face coverings will be required for everyone, and students must wear their ID on a school-issued lanyard or clipped at the neck or chest level.

Students will be expected to show up for in-person days with a fully-charged Chromebook, the release went on to say.

Food service will be available on in-person days; including daily breakfast, which, along with lunch, will be free through Friday, Dec. 18; the release said. Students must practice social distancing in the cafeteria and sit with lab family groups.

While most Fridays will be in-person learning, Friday, Oct. 16 will be a regularly-scheduled teacher in-service day, the release continued. Students will have the day off, with no check-in required and no remote-learning sessions being done.

The decision to return to in-person education was made with consideration of the county currently having zero cases; and following consultation with Knox Public Health, parents, staff, students and other school districts.

“It will be imperative for students to be diligent in completing their daily health assessments, staying home if feeling unwell, wearing their mask correctly, keeping as much space between individuals as possible, practicing great personal hygiene, etc.,” the release stated.

On Mondays, students will still be required to check in prior to 8:10 a.m. Intervention/reinforcement/enrichment days will be scheduled ahead of time with KCCC staff in collaboration with students and families.

For in-person instruction on Tuesday through Friday of each week— with the exception of Friday, Oct’ 16— students will report to KCCC, the release directed. Students will be divided by labs, with p.m. lab students attending academics in the morning and a.m. lab students attending academics in the afternoon.

With the first nine weeks of classes ending on Thursday, Oct. 15, parent-teacher conferences will be held that day by phone or via Zoom, the release said. Students can also turn in any make-up assignments during the first week of in-person classes.
