A 17-year-old Fredericktown driver was killed Sept. 26 in an accident at New Delaware Road and Tucker Road in Liberty Township, the Ohio State Patrol said.
Leah M. Staton “failed to yield” to another driver at a stop sign at the intersection, and was pronounced dead on the scene, the patrol said. The other driver suffered minor injuries. Both drivers were wearing seatbelts when the crash occurred at approximately 5:53 p.m.
“Alcohol and drug usage are not suspected to be a factor in the crash,” the patrol said in a news release.
Staton’s vehicle, a 2012 Chevrolet Impala, hit a utility pole after it was struck by the other driver in a 2005 Chrysler 300, the patrol said. Staton had been traveling southbound on Tucker Road when her car was hit. The other driver was headed westbound on New Delaware Road when the collision occurred.
