HEATH — The Highland Fighting Scots beat the John Glenn Muskies (22-25, 25-23, 23-25, 25-11, 15-7) in exciting fashion to reach the Regional Championship for Division II girl’s volleyball.
The Fighting Scots will face the Dover Crimson Tornadoes in the Regional Championship on Saturday at Heath at 2 p.m.
It was looking like John Glenn might pull away after winning two of the first three sets, but the Fighting Scots came back in the fourth and fifth sets to ultimately win the match.
“We’ve done this before,” said Coach Terrill. “(Raina Terry and Gena West) were freshmen on the state floor three years ago. They’ve been adamant that we do that again. We didn’t play our best at times tonight, and we kind of had to feel the other team a little bit. They were smacking us. We hung in there enough and got to that fourth set and almost put it on cruise control there. We just kind of went after it. We were just very aggressive in our serving and our attacking.”
Terrill also spoke about the keys to success in defeating the John Glenn Muskies in the regional semifinal game.
“We were being aggressive late,” he said. “That helped us. We didn’t play tight. We didn’t just roll the ball into play. We were still taking swings. We were still pushing it serving wise. I think that aggressiveness really helped us out there. I thought they (John Glenn) got a little tentative and they ran into some mistakes. We just pushed it.”
In terms of their next opponent, Terrill knows Dover will be a challenge for the Scots.
“They challenge you an awful lot,” said Terrill. “It’ll be a good match. They push the ball over the floor
