MOUNT VERNON — The Spectrum walk-in office on Newark Road in Mount Vernon will permanently close at the end of the business day on Friday.
Charter Communications, Spectrum’s parent company, sent a letter dated June 25 to Mayor Richard Mavis announcing the closure. Brian Young, director of Government Affairs for Charter Communications, wrote in the letter that the walk-in office will close due to its infrequent use by customers. The letter states that the building will remain in use to “maintain other departmental operations.”
Mike Pedelty, spokesperson for Charter Communications, said that the closure will not impact any operations.
“This won’t affect service at all. Service won’t change, it’ll still be like it used to be. More and more people are troubleshooting over the phone and on the Internet anyway,” Pedelty said.
Due to newly added customer service features such as electronic bill payment, walk-in payments are nearly obsolete. Pedelty said that payments can also be made at Western Union locations, or at the Newark store on North 11th Street. The letter says that customers can receive assistance or get information 24/7 over the phone or online. Pedelty also said customers can receive equipment they need, either to replace broken equipment or for a new installation, by mail, and have a variety of options available to them to solve any situation they might encounter.
