MOUNT VERNON — James H. Yeager, 88, of Mount Vernon, passed away Saturday, March 2, 2019, at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born Nov. 10, 1930, in Gambier, the son of Harry J. and Dorothy (McMahon) Yeager. James proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. He retired in 1993 after 30-plus years from Continental Can in Mount Vernon.
James and his wife, Martha, enjoyed traveling the states in their RV and he was also an avid bowler and golfer. James was a dedicated and devoted husband, father and grandfather who will be sadly missed by his family and many friends.
He is survived by his wife Martha (McQueen) Yeager whom he married Feb. 4, 1956, his children; James Michael (Judy) Yeager of Athens, David (Bonnie) Yeager of Howard and Laura (Ron) Anderson of Rushville; eight grandchildren, Daniel Yeager, Justin Yeager, Leslie (Andrew) Saunders, Bryan (April) Yeager, Timothy (Brooke) Williams, Katie Williams, Jessica Anderson and Jeremy (Brittany) Anderson; six great-grandchildren, Joscelynn, Grayson, Aiden, Skyler, Ryder and Chloe; and a sister, Jane Yeager of Gambier.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Louise Yeager, and all of his canine companion shelties.
Friends may call Tuesday, March 5, from 5-7 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home, 201 Newark Road, Mount Vernon, where a funeral service will be held Wednesday, March 6, beginning at 11 a.m. Rev. Jerry Ernst officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.
