Mount Vernon eligible for grant money

COLUMBUS, OH— The Ohio History Connection is pleased to announce that on August 28, 2020 it was awarded $556,327 to re-grant to Ohio’s Main Street communities for the rehabilitation of historic commercial, industrial and former school buildings. The Ohio Main Street Program, administered by Heritage Ohio, works with communities across the state to revitalize their historic and traditional commercial areas, improving all aspects of downtown and central business districts.

The Main Street communities eligible for this grant include: Cambridge, Delaware, Kent, Lebanon, Marietta, Medina, Middletown, Millersburg, Mount Vernon, Painesville, Piqua, Portsmouth, Ravenna, Tiffin, Tipp City, Troy, Van Wert, Vermilion, Wadsworth, Wellington, Wooster.

Ariel-Foundation Park continues to be recognized

MOUNT VERNON, Ohio – Ariel-Foundation Park, now in its fifth year, was recently recognized by several publications and websites as a top destination. Its unique features such as the Rastin Observation Tower, The Terraces, The Ruins and The Lakes make the park a great outdoor getaway spot, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The park will be featured on an upcoming episode of the new television show “Restoration Road” with Clint Harp on the Magnolia Network. Woodworker Harp travels the country in search of some of the oldest, most beautiful structures still standing today, examining how they were built, restored and given new life by some of the country's most talented craftsmen.

Fox 8 out of Cleveland is also traveling to Mount Vernon to do a “Day Trips” feature on the park later in September and the park appeared in the “Best of the Midwest 2020” travel publication.

Kno-Ho-Co-Ashland summer crisis program

The Kno-Ho-Co-Ashland Community Action Commission continues to assist income-eligible Ohioans stay cool during the hot summer months with the Summer Crisis Program that will end September 30th.  The Home Energy Assistance Summer Crisis Program provides eligible Ohioans assistance paying an electric bill. The program runs from July 1st until September 30th. 

To apply for the program, clients are required to complete an intake process with Kno-Ho-Co-Ashland Community Action Commission.
