The Knox County Garden Clubs will showcase creativity and community spirit with a floral exhibition during the Mount Vernon Music and Arts Festival.

The event, titled “Celebrating America’s 250 With Floral Designs,” will take place August 14–16 at the Living Center, 201 North Main Street, Mount Vernon. Entries will be accepted Friday, August 14, from 8:00 to 11:00 a.m., with judging to follow.

The Flower Show, which will highlight horticultural skill and artistic design and a "fun and learning experience," according to the organizers, welcomes both seasoned and amateur arrangers to participate in the event, including first-time participants. Residents outside Knox County may join by reserving a spot with Jo Ann Graham at 740‑397‑5156 no later than Saturday, August 8. Reservations are not required for Knox County residents or members of the Knox County Garden Club.

The event will feature horticulture and design sections for adults, juniors, and Living Center residents. Categories include cut flowers, annuals, perennials, dahlias, glads, flowering shrubs, herbs, caladiums, container plants, fruits, and vegetables. All entries will be judged by an accredited Ohio Association of Garden Clubs judge. To assist participants, two workshops are scheduled at the Living Center Activity Room. Graham and Audrey Spearman will guide participants through the Artistic Section, offering practical advice on design mechanics, demonstrating sample arrangements, and addressing questions about show requirements.

The Artistic Section workshop will be held Wednesday, July 8, at 1:00 p.m., offering guidance on design mechanics and arrangement techniques. Participants are asked to bring containers, soaked oasis or needle points, and plant materials to practice designs from Sections E or F of the show schedule.

The Horticulture Section workshop will follow on Wednesday, July 22, at 1:00 p.m., focusing on grooming and preparation of plants for exhibition. Graham and Spearman will review rules for showing flowers, shrubs, herbs, and vegetables, with demonstrations to help participants improve their exhibits.

Schedules for both artistic and horticulture shows are available at the Living Center’s main entrance or by contacting Graham at 740-397-5156 or [email protected].

With no entry charge and opportunities for both learning and competition, the Flower Show at the Mount Vernon Music and Arts Festival will help support community spirit through floral artistry in honor of America’s 250th anniversary.
