The Licking County Board of Commissioners at its June 4 meeting awarded a $609,968 bid to Robertson Construction Services of Heath, Ohio, to upgrade plumbing and restrooms at the historic Licking County Courthouse.
According to bid documents, the county plans to upgrade and modernize the ground floor public restrooms as well as the other 22 restrooms in the building. Portable trailer-mounted toilets will be provided during renovation of the ground floor restrooms. The contract specifies a timeframe for completion through Dec. 31. Plumbing prints were not available for the 1876 courthouse and had to be created for bidding purposes. The ground floor restrooms will receive new sinks, toilets, mirrors, and LED lights over the mirrors. Existing toilet carriers will be replaced with new pipe chase carriers to raise height for ADA compliance. Old gate valves will be replaced with new ball valves in the chase, and new water shut-offs will be installed at the new toilets separate from the chase. A missing toilet will be added in the men's restroom. Restrooms will also get new tile flooring, wall tile, stall walls and doors; each stall will have grab bars; men's rooms will get new urinals; exhaust fans will be added; and painting is planned for walls and ceilings where not tiled.
The remaining 22 restrooms throughout the courthouse are scheduled for updated plumbing including copper supply lines to toilets, sinks, and hot water tanks. New toilets and sinks are planned for installation along with mop sinks in some locations. Sanitary lines may receive relining as needed. These restrooms also are set to receive new flooring, painted walls, and new exhaust fans, according to bid documents from Licking County.
The existing plumbing system does not permit use of low-flow toilets or sinks due to flow requirements necessary for proper function, according to bid documents from Licking County. All work must comply with federal, state, and county codes; permits will be obtained by the Building Code Department while inspections are coordinated by the Licking County Code Department.
