BSA Scout Troop 1344-Girls, sponsored by the Apple Valley Property Owners Association in Howard, Ohio, along with several members of BSA Scout Troop 344-Boys, completed a community service project on May 13 at Faith Lutheran Church in Mount Vernon.
According to the organization, the Scouts raked pine needles and debris throughout the stone garden, including areas around the Wedding House and amphitheater. They also conducted a general cleanup of fallen limbs and branches as part of their efforts.

"Performing service projects together is one way that Scouts keep their promise 'to help other people.' While a Scout should do their best to help others every day, a group service project is a larger way to serve the community," the organization said. "When Scouts provide service, they learn to work together with others for the benefit of their community. Scouting requires hours of service to others in order to advance in rank. Eagle Scout candidates are required to develop and provide leadership for an approved service project."

The organization said Scouting America provides youth programs focused on character development and values-based leadership training. It also said that more than 130 million Americans have participated in Scouting programs since its founding, with nearly one million youth currently served by 477,000 adult volunteers across local councils.
Scouting America welcomes all youth into its programs and aims to offer experiences where young people can grow in a safe environment. More information about Scouting America's mission is available through the organization's website.
