The Licking County Board of Commissioners approved two contracts worth $3.7 million for roadway reconstruction of Pike Street in the Village of Etna during an April 2 meeting.
The decision addresses infrastructure needs in the area, including deteriorating road conditions, poor drainage, and increased traffic. The project aims to improve safety and accessibility for local residents and commuters.
The board of commissioners approved a $3.37 million agreement with Brennstuhl Construction of Bellville, Ohio for the Pike Street Reconstruction project. A second agreement for $360,402 was made with Environmental Design Group of Akron, Ohio, for construction inspection and contract administration for the Pike Street project according to the agenda.
According to an Ohio Department of Transportation project status web page, the project's purpose is to address the deteriorating conditions, poor drainage and increased traffic in the area. The project's scope includes installation of a five foot sidewalk on the south side of Pike Street and a 10-foot shared used path on the street's north side. The project will improve roadway drainage, lighting and crosswalks. All the work will be within the right-of-way according to ODOT.
Phases of the project will require a roadway closure with a detour route. Local traffic will be maintained throughout the project. The project extends from just east of SR 310 to Etna United Methodist Church according to ODOT.
Commissioner Duane H. Flowers made the motions to approve both project agreements. Commissioner Rick Black seconded the motions, and they were approved unanimously.
