The City of Mount Vernon is in the process of relocating its administrative offices from City Hall at 40 Public Square to the new Municipal Center at 236 S. Main St. downtown.
In an announcement, officials said the transition involves moving offices, computers, and phones in phases to minimize disruption. Staff will remain available at City Hall to assist walk-ins and callers during the move.
"Please expect possible delays for offices in transition," the city noted in its announcement. "Thank you for your patience!"
The new Municipal Center occupies part of the former Central Ohio Technical College building. Renovations to prepare the site are estimated at $850,000 to $1 million, with planning nearly complete. City Engineer Brian Ball told council members that the project was designed with a "lightest touch possible" approach to preserve existing kitchens and break rooms, reducing costs. An8.7 percent contingency was added to account for price escalation, bringing the total budget request to around $1 million.
Meanwhile, the historic City Hall building at 40 Public Square will be repurposed to house the Municipal Court and related offices.
