The Public Library of Mount Vernon & Knox County is set to offer a variety of programs in February 2026, aimed at engaging the community across different age groups. These activities range from family-friendly events to adult learning opportunities, designed to foster creativity and community connection.

One highlight is the Movie Night featuring "Hidden Figures" on February 11, 2026. Don Shanahan commented on the film's universal appeal, stating, "Boy or girl, man or woman, black or white, any audience member who has ever marveled at the Space Age of our national history will find much to love in Hidden Figures." RottenTomatoes.com also praised its focus on three remarkable individuals.

On February 18, John Chidester will share insights from his 50-year tenure as Library Director during an event celebrating his career. Participants can expect anecdotes about his experiences and reflections on changes within the library and community over time.

The Documentary Night on February 25 will screen "Chocolate Road," which follows chocolatiers through the chocolate-making process from plantation to final product. The film emphasizes understanding the origins of cacao beans and their growers.

Additional events include an Adult Craft and Conversation session on February 26 for local crafters to connect, and a Knox County Conversations roundtable on February 12 focusing on local history discussions. A podcast episode discussing books by Emily Henry and Maisey Yates will be available online on February 23.

The library also invites readers to join a Nonfiction Book Discussion of Ta-Nehisi Coates's "Between the World and Me" on February 23. This book explores race in American society through personal experiences shared with Coates's son.

Furthermore, Hoopla's Reading Challenge for February encourages participants to read books featuring strong female characters. More information about these programs can be found online or by visiting the library.
