Junior High robotics teams from the Danville Local School District capped off their regular season with standout performances at the Pioneer Classic in Elyria on Jan. 10, earning multiple awards and top finishes against a competitive field.
Will Samples, Easton Looney, Kyler Sanders, and Michael Byers, members of Team 68671H, 4 Big Guys, captured first place overall, winning both the Teamwork Champions Award and the Judges Award. The team also placed fourth in the skills category.
Landon Breckler, James Hochstetler, and Josh Westrick, members of Team 68671J, The Pneumatic Nerds, finished seventh overall, earned third place in skills, and won the Create Award, which recognizes innovative design and engineering.
The Pioneer Classic added to a string of strong performances for Danville’s robotics program, which had shown its depth earlier in the Harding VEX IQ Blended Competition on Dec. 13. At that event, Team 68671H captured first place, earning the Teamwork Champions Award and finishing fourth in skills. Team 68671J placed 16th in qualification matches but rallied for an eighth-place finish in skills.
Danville Local Schools congratulated its junior high robotics teams for competing in the Pioneer Classic in Elyria. In a statement on Facebook, the district praised the students for their efforts and celebrated the conclusion of a successful regular season.
