Two thousand years ago, Indigenous people in Ohio created significant architectural and astronomical structures. Although much of their work has been lost, the remaining structures continue to impress. However, many residents of Ohio are not familiar with these historical sites.

Sarah Hinkelman, Site Superintendent at the Newark Earthworks, will present an introduction to the Great Circle, the Octagon, and other features of the Hopewell Ceremonial Earthworks. This site is recognized as Ohio's only UNESCO World Heritage Site. The event will take place on Wednesday, January 21, 2026, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room. It is free and open to the public.

This program is part of America's 250 Years Celebration and is organized by the Public Library of Mount Vernon & Knox County.
