Community theater plays a vital role in the arts scene, according to Bruce Jacklin, Artistic Director of Mount Vernon Arts Consortium. Jacklin emphasizes that the success of MTVarts is due to community involvement. "Whether you audition, volunteer, usher, build sets, donate, or simply attend a performance, you are part of what makes this theater thrive," he states. He encourages those interested to participate in various capacities.

The upcoming lineup includes two short plays and a summer musical. "Our Place" by Terry Wayne Gabbard features five stories set on a dock by a lake. "The Yellow Wallpaper," adapted by Kathryn Funkhouser from Charlotte Perkins Gilman's story, reveals family secrets through a hidden diary.

A classic adaptation of "To Kill a Mockingbird" will also be presented. This play delves into themes of prejudice and courage as it tells the story of a young black man accused of a crime in a small town.

The summer musical "Grease" will bring rock 'n' roll hits like "Summer Nights" and "Greased Lightnin’" to life with auditions open for those 16 and older.

Additionally, the artsIQ program will feature "The Wizard of Oz," partnering with ZFX Flying Effects for theatrical flight effects.

Carrie Haver, President of Mount Vernon Arts Consortium, expresses gratitude for community support: "You're bringing quality, affordable live theatre experiences and impactful youth education to central Ohio."
