The Mount Vernon City Council has approved the sale of a two-story house and a garage, with the stipulation that buyers must relocate these structures from their current location at 200 Mansfield Drive.
"We purchased a piece of property to do a road project," City Engineer Brian Ball said during a council meeting. "It's a very nice house and a very nice garage. We have received multiple phone calls about, 'Hey, can I have that?'"
Ball said that he cannot give away the house or garage. After consulting with Police Chief Robert Morgan, they decided to list the house and garage for sale on GOVdeals.com as surplus items, similar to how the city disposes of old police vehicles.
Ball also mentioned that Law Director Rob Broeren will draft a document allowing interested parties to bid on relocating the house from its current site.
Additionally, there is interest in the garage from another group of people who will also have the opportunity to bid on it through GOVdeals.com.
