Two Knox County Schools are being recognized for their commitment to creating positive, supportive learning environments, earning statewide honors through Ohio's Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) recognition program for the 2024-2025 school year.
Danville Elementary School, located at 205 West Rambo Street, Danville, received the Bronze Award, the Danville Local School District announced.
"Congratulations to Danville Elementary!" the district shared. "The Elementary has earned the Bronze award for the Positive Behavior Intervention System (PBIS) in recognition for the 2024-2025 school year!
Across the county, Dan Emmet Elementary School, located at 108 Mansfield Ave, Mount Vernon, earned the state's Gold Award, the highest level of PBIS recognition. School counselor Mrs. Danzuso celebrated the news in a recent newsletter, noting the dedication behind the achievement.
"We have amazing news to share, Dan Emmett has received the GOLD recognition for our efforts in Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports from the Department of Education and Workforce!" she wrote. "Dan Emmet staff have been working very hard to help support and promote a positive school environment, so this recognition means a lot to us all!
PBIS is a framework used in schools across the country to promote positive behavior, improve school climate, and increase academic success. Rather than focusing solely on discipline, PBIS emphasizes teaching expectations, reinforcing positive behaviors, and creating consistent, supportive routines. Schools that implement PBIS with fidelity often see reductions in disciplinary incidents, stronger student engagement, and improved relationships among students and staff.
Ohio’s PBIS recognition system awards schools at the Bronze, Silver, and Gold levels based on how thoroughly and effectively they implement the framework. Earning recognition signals that a school is committed to building a safe, respectful, and inclusive environment where students can thrive.
