Mount Vernon Nazarene University recently dedicated the Tim Belcher Clubhouse during its 2025 Homecoming & Family Weekend. This project was realized through Phase One of the On Deck Campaign for Cougar Baseball. The new facility includes a modern locker room, a players’ lounge, and spaces for equipment management, reflecting the university's dedication to providing top-notch resources for student-athletes.
Chip Wilson, MVNU Athletic Director, remarked on the significance of the event: "This is a big day for our baseball program and our entire community." He praised Tim Belcher, stating that he "exemplifies the values we strive to instill in our student-athletes — dedication, perseverance, and excellence both on and off the field."
Tim Belcher, an alumnus from 1983, had a notable 14-year career in Major League Baseball with seven teams. His career record stands at 146-140 with an ERA of 4.16 and 1,519 strikeouts over 2,442.2 innings. In 1988, he was named The Sporting News Rookie Pitcher of the Year while playing for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Belcher expressed his gratitude: "I’m deeply honored and humbled to have my name associated with this beautiful clubhouse."
The On Deck Campaign has garnered support from alumni and friends committed to collegiate athletics excellence. Phase Two of the campaign was announced at the dedication ceremony; it will include lights, a turf infield, a backstop with a brick wall from dugout to dugout, and new perimeter fencing.
In conjunction with the clubhouse dedication, MVNU hosted "Night with Nashville: Benefiting Cougar Baseball with the Hits." The event featured performances by singer/songwriters Karyn Williams, Jesse Reeves, and Brian White—an MVNU baseball alum—and raised funds for the On Deck Campaign.
