The Mount Vernon Nazarene University men's basketball team improved its record to 2-0 with a victory over Kentucky Christian University, winning 97-78 in Grayson, Kentucky. Despite an early lead by Kentucky Christian, MVNU tied the game at 16-16 with just over ten minutes left in the first half. The Cougars then went on a significant run, ending the half with a 47-31 lead.
Peyton Heiss led MVNU's offense with 24 points and seven rebounds. Isaiah Brown contributed 17 points and four assists, while Trent Koning added 12 points and three steals. Devin Dreier scored ten points and secured nine rebounds for the team. Overall, MVNU out-rebounded their opponents 44 to 28 and forced 17 turnovers, converting them into 25 points.
Coach Ronai commented on his team's performance: "Our guys did a great job of battling through early adversity with the delayed start to the game. Overall, I thought our pressure wore on them for 40 minutes and we did a great job on the offensive glass; however, we have to do a better job of finishing in the box area."
Looking ahead, MVNU will host Brescia University at Ariel Arena on November 7 as part of the MVNU Classic.
