The City of Mount Vernon has announced that its annual leaf pick-up will commence on Monday, November 3, 2025. The city plans to conduct two complete rounds across all areas using three leaf collection machines. The process will start on main roads before moving into the neighborhoods. According to city officials, "weather conditions, the amount of leaf piles, and mechanical issues can make it difficult to predict exactly when crews will reach specific streets." Each round is expected to take between eight and ten days.

Residents are advised to rake leaves to the curb but not into the street, as this can lead to clogged storm sewers and drainage issues. Additionally, leaves should not be piled around trees, fire hydrants, signposts, mailboxes, or near intersections. It is also important for residents to avoid parking vehicles near leaf piles to ensure collection equipment can access them.

For those who prefer an alternative method of disposal, loose leaves can be taken to the Knox County Yard Waste and Compost Facility located at 7425 Thayer Road in Mount Vernon. This facility is open every day of the week. Residents must remove all bags or containers after emptying their leaves.

For further inquiries about the leaf pick-up program, residents can contact the Street Department at 740-393-9501.
