Knox County residents are invited to participate in the DEA National Prescription Drug Take Back Day on Saturday, October 25, 2025. The event aims to provide a safe and responsible way to dispose of prescription drugs while educating the public about medication abuse.

Communities Coming Together, formerly known as KSAAT, is organizing the event in collaboration with Knox Public Health and local law enforcement agencies. Residents can dispose of unwanted, expired, or unused medications by placing them in a clear Ziploc bag and delivering them to one of five drop-off locations across the county. The collection will also accept unwanted syringes.

Drop-off sites include Knox Public Health at 11660 Upper Gilchrist Road in Mount Vernon, Mount Vernon Health Center at 202 West Vine Street in Mount Vernon, Danville Police Department at 512 South Market Street in Danville, Centerburg Foster’s Pharmacy at 4584 Columbus Road in Centerburg, and Fredericktown Police Department at 182 South Main Street in Fredericktown.

For those unable to attend on October 25, free Deterra Drug Deactivation pouches are available from Knox Public Health for safe home disposal of medications. Year-round drop-boxes are also available at several locations including the Knox County Sheriff’s Office and police departments in Fredericktown, Danville, and Mount Vernon. It is important not to place liquids, inhalers, sharps or illegal substances in these drop boxes.
