The Knox County Park District is inviting the public to explore the scenic landscape of Ohio, including the well-known "Devil's Backbone," as part of a historical hike event. This area was once traversed by the Walhonding Valley Railroad, which is no longer in operation. The hike offers participants a chance to learn about the valley's geology and geography, the history of the railroad, and notable events such as a major crash and several floods.

Local historian David Greer will be present along with other guides to assist guests during this self-guided tour. The event will take place on Sunday, October 19, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., starting at 19940 Nashville Road in Danville, Ohio. It is free and open to all ages.

Participants are encouraged to bring friends and wear comfortable shoes for this leisurely walk that covers about a mile, with an option for additional distance for those interested in a more challenging hike.

For further details, individuals can contact either the Knox County Park District at (740) 392-7275 or the Danville Public Library at (740) 599-BOOK. Additional information can also be found on their website at www.knox.net.
