The Mount Vernon Nazarene University men's tennis team began its season with a 5-2 victory over Shawnee State University in Portsmouth, Ohio. This win marks the first time the team has won its season opener and is their first victory since defeating Capital University on October 5, 2023.
Despite not securing a win in doubles, MVNU excelled in singles matches, winning five out of six against the Bears. Victorious players included CJ Danemayer (2-6, 6-3, 11-9), Noah Hill (7-5, 5-6, 10-5), Blake Boyer (6-7, 6-3, 10-6), Nathan Fitzpatrick (6-2, 6-0), and Ryan Almovodar (6-0, 6-3).
Looking ahead, MVNU will participate in the ITA Regionals in Marion, Indiana on September 24. Details regarding matchups and times are yet to be determined.
