Cougars secure dominant win over Brescia with five-goal shutout

The Mount Vernon Nazarene University men's soccer team secured a decisive 5-0 victory against Brescia University in Louisville, Kentucky. The match took place on Thursday, September 18, with MVNU improving their record to 5-1-2 while Brescia fell to 1-5-2.

Miguel Bello opened the scoring for the Cougars within the first minute. Tiago Dejesus added a second goal in the 22nd minute, assisted by Diogo Bento. Chucho Salgado scored in the 28th minute with help from Elkana Maier, giving MVNU a comfortable lead at halftime.

In the second half, Salgado scored again at the 54th minute, once more assisted by Maier. Baba Sarr concluded the scoring at the 64th minute with an assist from Max Walker and Alex DeJesus. Goalkeeper Brayden Pierson made one save during the match, marking his fifth shutout of the season.

MVNU's defense was robust, allowing only one shot on goal from Brescia while outshooting them 24-6 overall. Of those shots, 13 were on target.

Looking ahead, MVNU will begin conference play against Goshen University on Wednesday, September 24 at CH4 Stadium. The game is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m.
