The Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County is promoting Library Card Sign-Up Month this September, encouraging residents to explore the diverse opportunities a library card offers. This year's theme, "One Card, Endless Possibilities," highlights the extensive resources available beyond borrowing books.

Library cards provide access to free classes, job resources, homework help, streaming media, and cultural events. The library aims to connect communities with information and inspiration. "Whether you're diving into a new hobby, searching for your next great read, brushing up on tech skills, or helping your child succeed in school, it all starts with a library card," the release states.

The library offers various resources including teen maker spaces, eBooks, educational databases, business tools, curated book displays, and informational materials. Unique items like sensory toys and radon detectors are also available through their Beyond Books catalog.

Programs cater to all ages with storytimes, book discussions, writing programs, tech help sessions, arts and crafts activities, local history presentations such as "Not-So-Local History - Learning from Neanderthals" by Bruce Hardy from Kenyon College on September 17. Knox County Conversations will take place on September 18 for those interested in local history discussions over lunch.

Additional events include a nonfiction book discussion on Erik Larson's "In the Garden of Beasts" on September 22 and a two-part sewing program starting in September. Adult Craft Night at Gambier Community Library features pressed flower pumpkins on September 18.

The Danville Public Library hosts Womenlead Wednesdays monthly for community support discussions. Fredericktown Community Library's Cookbook Club meets monthly to share recipes from pre-selected cookbooks.

All programs are free and open to the public. More information can be found online at www.knox.net or by visiting any branch of the Public Library of Mount Vernon & Knox County.
