The Licking County Recycling Department and Licking County Records & Archives are hosting a free paper shredding and electronics recycling event on Saturday, Sept. 20. Licking County residents may bring their items for shredding and recycling from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Licking County Highway Department garage complex at 775 E. Main Street in Newark, near the intersection of East Main Street and O’Bannon Avenue.

To ensure privacy, it is requested that all papers be securely boxed, and no documents will be accepted from businesses.

"Licking County is not responsible for the data contained in any documents that are submitted," according to a news release from Licking County.

Additionally, to give everyone a chance to participate, the organizers ask that each household or individual limit their drop-off to five boxes.

The community is also reminded that plastics will not be accepted. It is also advised that there should be no paper clips attached to the documents or placed together with the paper materials inside the boxes or bags. No binders, photographs, or other physical media, such as CDs and DVDs, will be received. All disposed papers will be shredded after the event by Ohio Mobile Shredding and will be done off-site.

A separate event for TV collection in 2026 is being planned. Hence, televisions will not be accepted for electronics recycling on Sept. 20, but a wide variety of electronic items will be accepted for free. Licking County residents are allowed to bring their phones, cameras, monitors, computers, and printers to the recycling event. Other items that people may bring are their gaming units, e-readers, speakers, DVD players, and battery backups. Columbus Micro Systems will manage the collection of the electronic waste for the event.

Contact the Licking County Recycling Department at (740) 670-5125  to learn more about the event or for further information about recycling. Licking County Recycling also offers customizable recycling education for schools, available through in-person visits or virtual presentations.
