Central Ohio Technical College (COTC) and The Ohio State University at Newark have launched a new initiative in collaboration with Licking/Knox Goodwill Industries to assist students in acquiring professional clothing. This program aims to support job-seeking students by providing them with vouchers that can be used to purchase attire suitable for job interviews, career fairs, academic conferences, and internships.
Tim Young, CEO of Licking/Knox Goodwill Industries and vice chair of COTC’s alumni council, emphasized the importance of appropriate attire: "The right outfit doesn’t just change how you look — it also changes how you feel." He expressed hope that this initiative would inspire future leaders by providing them with professional clothing for various occasions.
Each month, eight vouchers are distributed through the campus’ Office of Student Life. Students have the option to redeem these vouchers online or at any of the 10 Goodwill retail stores located across Licking and Knox counties. Tim Goetz, career development manager for both COTC and Ohio State Newark, acknowledged Goodwill's role in supporting the community: "Goodwill has long been a valuable partner to the Newark community, and we deeply appreciate their dedication to supporting our students."
This program reflects both institutions' dedication to preparing career-ready graduates and fostering community partnerships. Young added, "Everyone deserves the support they need to help find the job they want. It takes a village, and we are fortunate enough to have a whole campus of talented individuals to help make career dreams come true."
