Mount Vernon Nazarene University is preparing for its 57th annual performance of Handel's Messiah. The event will take place on November 23, 2025, at the R.R. Hodges Chapel/Auditorium. This year, the performance is scheduled earlier than usual to coincide with Thanksgiving and mark the beginning of the Christmas season.
The university's Choral Union will feature a combination of choirs, faculty, staff, alumni, community members, soloists, and a chamber orchestra. Dr. Robert Tocheff will conduct the performance for his 35th year. He shared his anticipation for one of the highlights: "One of the many highlights is when, mid-way through the Hallelujah Chorus, I turn to conduct the audience and experience this unforgettable expression of worship of our King of Kings and Lord of Lords."
Tickets are available for $10 each at https://www.mvnu.edu/music. Rehearsals begin on September 24 and will be held every Wednesday from 4:40 to 5:40 p.m. in Nease Rehearsal Hall. Community members interested in participating can contact Dr. Tocheff via email for audition details.
The university is also seeking sponsors to support future performances and its music department. Those interested in contributing can visit http://www.mvnu.edu/give-music or reach out to Dr. John Packard or Dr. Tocheff directly.
