The Mount Vernon Nazarene University women's volleyball team, ranked No. 14, started their west coast trip with a notable victory against No. 6 Southern Oregon during the Summer Slam 2025 event hosted by Hope International on August 22. The Lady Cougars overcame Southern Oregon in a five-set match, with scores of 23-25, 25-15, 26-24, 20-25, and finally clinching the win with a decisive 15-9 in the fifth set.
Freshman Evelyn Brown led MVNU with 12 kills. Lilla Nicholas and Eliana Morgan contributed significantly as well, achieving career-highs of 11 and 10 kills respectively. Morgan also recorded five blocks for the team. Jaelyn Tang supported the defense with 13 digs while Kate Ruffle added eight digs. Reagan Nuss had an all-around performance with 41 assists, seven digs, and five kills.
In their second match of the day against No. 23 The Master's University, MVNU was defeated in four sets: 20-25, 25-23, 17-25, and 21-25. Libby Evanshine led her team with both kills and blocks while Brown hit a .348 average across her ten kills. Tang provided strong defensive support with a total of 23 digs.
MVNU will continue their California trip at Summer Slam on August 23 where they are scheduled to face No.2 Bellevue from Nebraska and Life Pacific at two different times during the day.
