The first Licking County League golf tournament was held on August 11 at St. Albans Golf Club.

Utica and the other Licking County teams battled through grueling heat and humidity, with temperatures reaching as high as 89 degrees.

Granville’s team took first place, led by top scorers Avery Staten with a 77, Carmella Aulet with a 79, and Ella Clarke also with a 79.

Second place went to Newark Catholic, which boasted the two lowest individual scores of the match: Caylee Lattimer with a 73 and Sam Spearman with a 76.

Heath secured third place, with senior Reagan Kelley as their top scorer, shooting an 81.

Watkins and Utica finished with the same total number of strokes over eighteen holes, but Utica claimed fourth place after a tiebreaker based on individual player scores.

“We are very proud of our team’s top 4 finish in this season’s first LCL. Their team score of 375 strokes is the best 18-hole score of this season so far and the lowest (by 25 strokes) of our team’s best 2024 mark,” said Utica Coach Pam Vickers.

The rest of the leaderboard featured Licking Heights in sixth, Licking Valley in seventh, Johnstown in eighth, and Mount Vernon in ninth.

At the time of press, Lakewood’s scoring had not been finalized.

“Next up for Utica is a 2-match day on August 12; for the Red team at the Watkins Invitational at Cumberland Trail GC and the Grey team will host Licking Heights for a 9,” said Coach Vickers.
