On Saturday, August 2, from 10 a.m.-Noon, the Mount Vernon Church of Christ at 1190 Newark Road will host a School Supply Giveaway for elementary-age students, offering free bags filled with essentials like disinfecting wipes, tissues, glue sticks, scissors, school supply boxes, Band-Aids, crayons, colored pencils, washable markers, pencils, black dry erase markers, and headphones or earbuds—one bag per child, maximum two per household, while supplies last; this first-come, first-served community event aims to help families prepare for the school year, so arrive early and help spread the word to those who would benefit from this generous outreach.
Ohio Women On The Fly 2025 Summer Picnic
On Saturday, August 2, 2025, from 11 a.m.-4 p.m. at Ariel-Foundation Park in Mount Vernon, Ohio Women on the Fly invites anglers of all levels to their 2025 Summer Picnic—a day dedicated to casting, connection, and community, featuring local pond fishing, casting and fly-tying lessons, fun fishing games, lunch, laughter, and meaningful time shared with women passionate or curious about fly fishing; gear is encouraged but not required as extras will be available, making this event a perfect opportunity to learn, relax, and enjoy the outdoors with a supportive and welcoming group of women from across the state.
