Library announces summer reading programs for all ages

The Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County is hosting a series of summer reading programs and activities from June 30 to July 2, 2025. These events are free and open to the public, with various activities scheduled for different age groups.

On Monday, June 30, the Teen Summer Reading Program will feature "Color Your World: Funky Beats Rainbow Sand Art" from 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the Mount Vernon Library's back parking lot. Participants in grades 6-12 can enjoy giveaways every 30 minutes and earn entries for grand prize giveaways by attending these programs and reading.

Additionally, Christie and Katie will discuss "The Picture of Dorian Gray" by Oscar Wilde as part of the "What Are You Reading?" podcast on June 30 at 4:00 p.m. Copies of the book will be available at the Mount Vernon Branch that day.

For younger children in grades K-3rd, the "World of Color" program offers an adventure in crafting on June 30 from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. in the Youth Storytime Room. Registration is required for this event.

Family Storytime sessions are scheduled at Gambier Community Library every Tuesday at either 10:30 a.m. or 4:00 p.m., and at Fredericktown Community Library from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., with no registration necessary.

On Tuesday, July 1, students in grades 4 & 5 can join "The Artful Dodgers!" program for tie-dye art from 4:30 p.m. to 5:30 p.m., ending with Shibori art creation in the back parking lot.

A screening of "The Wizard of Oz" will take place on July 1 from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room, open to all ages but requiring adult accompaniment for children.

Finally, on Wednesday, July 2, Gambier Community Library hosts a Family Coloring Day from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., inviting attendees of all ages to participate in coloring activities and contribute to a community banner.
