The 2025 Teen Summer Reading Program at the Mount Vernon Library is set to begin, inviting local teens to dive into a colorful summer of creativity, reading, and fun. Students entering grades 6 through 12 are eligible to participate in this free program, which centers around this year’s theme: “Color Our World!”

To join, teens should visit the Circulation Desk on the children’s floor of the library. Upon registering, participants will receive a signup bag filled with themed items to kick off the summer. All who register are automatically entered into a drawing for one of three grand prizes. Teens can earn additional entries by attending weekly teen events or completing reading activities throughout the summer.

Programs will be held every Monday from June 2 through July 7, 2025, between 1:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. Events will take place in either the Multipurpose Room or the Back Parking Lot, depending on the activity. The full schedule includes:

  • June 2: Melting Crayon Art

  • June 9: Hydro Drip Art (held outside)

  • June 16: Colorful Clay Creations & Rainbow Suncatchers

  • June 23: Tie Dye Fun Day (held outside)

  • June 30: Funky Beats Rainbow Sand Art (held outside)

  • July 7: Pour Your Paint Out

Extra entry forms for the prize drawing will be available at each program and next to the form box on the children’s floor. Each completed entry form boosts a participant's chance of winning one of the grand prizes.

Whether through hands-on art projects or reading challenges, the Teen Summer Reading Program promises an engaging way for young readers to explore their creativity and celebrate summer at the Mount Vernon Library.
