Fredericktown FFA announced its participation in the Area 3 Envirothon Competition at Shadow Lake Campground in Woodsfield, Ohio.
According to Fredericktown FFA, the competition saw student teams from 16 counties, including Belmont, Coshocton, and Licking, compete in areas such as aquatics, forestry, soils and land use, wildlife management, and environmental issues related to climate adaptation. The program emphasizes hands-on learning and teamwork with the aim of equipping students with knowledge in natural resource management while fostering skills applicable to careers in environmental law and resource management.
The Envirothon curriculum is designed to prepare students for leadership roles by focusing on real-world environmental challenges. The 2025 theme is centered on "Adapting to a Changing Climate," requiring participants to analyze the impact of climate change on ecosystems and propose mitigation strategies. While Fredericktown FFA's team placed 14th overall, the top four teams from each of Ohio’s five Envirothon areas will advance to the Ohio Envirothon in June to continue competing in areas like ecology and conservation.
