Morgan Grange #829 meeting recap

Local Government

The monthly meeting of Morgan Grange #829 was held on Friday, May 9, with Master Will Smith presiding and sixteen members present. The opening song was "Battle Hymn of the Republic." Roll call of the last meeting was read and approved.

Family Activities Chairwoman Cindy Campbell reported a good turnout of Morgan members at the Farm City dinner. A donation of an electric roaster was received from the Knox Chapter of the Eastern Star. Members will be providing food donations and kitchen help at the funeral dinner for Charles Bower, deceased husband of member Barb Bower. Ned Campbell was recognized as the first-place winner in the men's baking contest at the state level. Members attended the Rural Life Sunday dinner recently held. It was announced that Pomona Grange will meet on Monday, May 19, for their annual picnic. The June Pomona meeting will be on Monday, June 16, at Harrison Grange for inspection and the fifth degree work. Work on the north side driveway of the grange hall has been completed and is now in good shape.

Concerns were expressed for the family of Barb Bower and for Austin Campbell. Jim Hughes and Dee Smith are celebrating a birthday this month.

Lecturer Jo Ann Walton presented a Mother's Day program. She invited all women present to share a favorite memory about their mother. A story about a young married couple was read and members joined in singing songs that were appropriate to all the different stages of their married life together. Dee Smith had the lucky number and she won the Mother's Day balloon prize. A Mother's Day word search was handed out and all mothers received a candy bar.

Morgan Grange members will meet again at 7:30 p.m. on Friday, June 13.
