Assistant City Inspector Brian Marvin | City of Mount Vernon

Brian Marvin commenced his role as the City of Mount Vernon's new assistant city inspector on April 21, succeeding former Code Enforcement Officer Greg Bemiller, who retired at the end of February 2025.

According to a news release, the assistant city inspector is tasked with administering and enforcing the city's Property Maintenance Ordinances, Chapter 1305 in the city's Codified Ordinances. The position also involves supporting the city inspector in enforcing the Municipal Zoning code to ensure compliance with regulations aimed at maintaining and enhancing community safety, health, and aesthetics.

The release said that Marvin will collaborate closely with City Inspector Scott Zimmerman, who assumed his role on April 7.

"My wife and I moved to Mount Vernon in 2024 and immediately fell in love with the area. When this job became available, I was drawn to it as I felt that my years of experience in law enforcement and administration could add value to this position," Marvin said.

Marvin served as a military police officer in the U.S. Army from 1991-96. He subsequently worked for 25 years with the City of Reynoldsburg's Division of Police. His career there began as a police officer before progressing to detective work, which included collaboration with the FBI Cybercrimes Task Force, followed by a role as a support services supervisor.

Mayor Matt Starr commented on Marvin's appointment, acknowledging that he has significant responsibilities ahead following Bemiller's tenure. Starr expressed confidence in Marvin's ability to continue improving property standards within the city.
