Zac Clow hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning, leading Mount Vernon to a 5-3 victory over Watkins Memorial on Monday.
According to the game report, the Yellow Jackets and the Warriors were tied at 3 in the bottom of the fifth when Clow launched a shot over the center-field fence, securing Mount Vernon's lead. Watkins Memorial initially took an early lead by scoring twice in the first inning. Tyler Vincent singled to left field to drive in a run, followed by Dotson's sacrifice fly that made it 2-0.
Mount Vernon managed to tie the game in the third inning after a Watkins Memorial error and an RBI single by Clow. The Warriors evened it again in the fifth when Vincent grounded into a fielder’s choice.
Kayden Packard earned the complete-game win for Mount Vernon. He allowed five hits and three runs—one earned—while striking out three and walking two over seven innings. No. 9 took the loss for Watkins Memorial, surrendering two unearned runs on two hits over two innings.
Watkins Memorial starter Brayden Windnagel pitched four innings, giving up three runs—one earned—on three hits, striking out four and walking four. Clow led Mount Vernon at the plate, going 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Vincent paced Watkins Memorial, finishing 1-for-3 with two RBIs. Aydan Guthrie and Burt each collected two hits for Watkins Memorial, which also turned a double play.
The Mount Vernon Yellow Jackets are scheduled to travel to face Licking Valley on Tuesday.
