Ohio Wesleyan University announced that Lisa Hoam of Fredericktown, Ohio, has received a spring 2025 Theory-to-Practice Grant to support her research, internship, service, or cultural-immersion opportunity. The announcement was made in a press release on April 22, 2025.
According to Ohio Wesleyan University, Elsa Hoam was also awarded a spring 2025 Theory-to-Practice Grant for a project titled "Generative Art International 2025." The project is led by Dr. Craig Jackson and involves collaboration with Hoam, Josiah Montgomery, and faculty members Jeff Nilan and Camilla Querin. The group plans to travel to Italy in December to attend the Generative Art International Conference in Rome and visit museums with academic significance. The grant is part of the OWU Connection program, which supports research, internships, service, and cultural-immersion opportunities.
"This grant will allow both students and faculty to present their work to an international conference of scholars and practitioners in the field of generative art," said Jackson. "For student participants, this is a rare opportunity that allows them to discuss the work they have been producing in our studios and classrooms with an international audience. For faculty participants, this conference is directly relevant to their scholarly and artistic research in generative design for textiles and generative aspects of indigenous art."
For the spring grant cycle, Ohio Wesleyan awarded nearly $88,000 in grants. The OWU Connection program is integrated into the university's curriculum and mandates that all students complete at least one project focused on Thinking Big (undergraduate research), Doing Good (community-engaged learning), Going Global (off-campus study), or Getting Real (career-related internships and externships). Upon completion of these projects, students must submit reports and presentations on their experiences, with many presenting at the university’s annual Spring Student Symposium.
