Mount Vernon Softball rallies past Licking Valley, 6-3, behind Rudrick’s big day

Hailey Rudrick's performance was pivotal in leading the Mount Vernon Yellow Jackets varsity softball team to a 6-3 victory over Licking Valley on Friday. Rudrick went 3-for-4, contributing two doubles and a single.

According to the game details, Mount Vernon quickly recovered after falling behind early. Licking Valley initially took the lead in the top of the first inning when Whisner hit a three-run home run. However, Mount Vernon responded in the bottom half with three runs. Keely Pollard and Rudrick each delivered doubles, while Grace Bates added an RBI single to tie the game at 3-3.

Mount Vernon secured its lead in the second inning with Carly Kennedy's RBI double, making it 4-3. The Yellow Jackets added two more runs to ensure their victory.

Jocelyn Scarbury pitched a complete game for Mount Vernon, allowing just one hit and three runs over seven innings while striking out seven and walking three. Rylee Myers also contributed offensively by going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases.

Rudrick continued to drive Mount Vernon's offense with hits throughout the game, including a double in the first inning, a single in the third, and another double in the fourth. Overall, Mount Vernon collected seven hits without committing any errors defensively.

Licking Valley also performed well defensively, remaining error-free. Baughman started as pitcher for Licking Valley and allowed six runs on seven hits over 3 2/3 innings, striking out one and walking two. She also led her team with five defensive plays.

Whisner was a key player for Licking Valley offensively, driving in all three of her team's runs with her first-inning homer and finishing 1-for-3 at bat.

Mount Vernon aims to maintain its momentum into Monday’s game against Licking Heights.
