The Ohio State University at Mansfield announced that Destiny Blubaugh was honored with the $1,250 James R. McLeod Scholarship and a first-place Florence B. Allen Literary Award during its April 3 Academic Awards Celebration. The announcement was made in a press release on April 16.
According to the Ohio State University at Mansfield, Blubaugh received the scholarship for her academic and community achievements and earned first place in poetry for her piece "Her" through the Florence B. Allen Literary Awards.
"With a cumulative GPA of 4.0, it is clear that Blubaugh’s academic performance is stellar. But what really caught the eye of the committee was her work with the community," said Agus Muñoz-Garcia, associate professor of evolution, ecology, and organismal biology at Ohio State Mansfield. "Her empathy towards other human beings and genuine drive to support and care for others is truly commendable."
The university held its Academic Awards Celebration, recognizing over 30 students for achievements including scholarships, book awards, research, and writing projects. Each recipient was individually honored on the stage of Riedl Hall, with awards presented by faculty members from their respective academic disciplines.
"These awards are milestones along your much larger journey," said Dawn Kitchen, associate dean at Ohio State Mansfield. "As Buckeyes, you represent a legacy of hard work, a community bound by many shared values and the determination to push through boundaries."
