Jocelyn Scarbury led the Mount Vernon Varsity Yellow Jackets to a decisive 13-3 victory over Granville on Monday, hitting two home runs and driving in four runs.
According to the game report, Scarbury homered in both the second and third innings, helping her team establish an early lead. Mount Vernon initiated scoring in the first inning when Brooke Dovenbarger doubled, bringing in two runs. The Yellow Jackets continued their momentum in the second inning with three hits, including Scarbury’s solo home run to center field and an RBI single by Rylee Myers.
Scarbury further contributed in the third inning with a three-run home run to left field, extending Mount Vernon's lead. The team's offense surged again in the sixth inning with four additional runs. Hailey Rudrick hit a solo home run to center, Grace Bates added an RBI single, and Presli Pope doubled to drive in two more runs.
In addition to her offensive contributions, Scarbury earned the win as a pitcher, allowing five hits and three runs—one of which was earned—over six innings. She struck out eight batters and walked one.
Granville's M. Lodge took the loss after conceding 11 hits and eight runs over four innings. She recorded three strikeouts and one walk. Mount Vernon amassed a total of 16 hits during the game. Both Scarbury and Rudrick went 3-for-4 at bat, while Carly Kennedy, Pope, Myers, and Bates also had multi-hit games.
Granville's performance was highlighted by C. Edwards going 1-for-2 with an RBI. Lodge stole two bases for Granville, which played error-free defense under S. Cottrill's leadership with five defensive chances.
The Yellow Jackets are scheduled to return to action on Tuesday at home against Licking Valley.
