St. John’s United Church of Christ has announced the return of its seasonal 8:00 a.m. Outdoor Drive-In worship service, the reappointment of Rev. Dr. Stephen Swisher as pastor, and its schedule for Holy Week and Easter celebrations. The announcement was made in a press release on April 8, 2025.

According to the church, starting April 27, 2025, St. John’s United Church of Christ will resume its Outdoor Drive-In Worship Service at 8:00 a.m., a tradition since 1985. This early service allows attendees to remain in their vehicles, catering to those with mobility concerns or busy schedules. Ushers provide bulletins upon arrival, and participants can listen to the pastor's message via car radio as it is delivered from the church patio.

The church also announced Dr. Stephen Lowell Swisher as its new pastor. Swisher previously served in Etna and Columbus and has been involved in youth programs and legislative prayer openings at the Ohio State Senate. He holds degrees from New Mexico State University and United Theological Seminary, with additional studies at Oxford University and Wesley Seminary. His past roles include hospice chaplain, Rotary leader, chamber of commerce president, and published author.

St. John's invites all to participate in its Holy Week and Easter events, which include Palm Sunday services on April 13, a Good Friday service on April 18, and Easter Sunday services on April 20. These events feature a 7:00 a.m. Sanctuary service, communion at all worship times, and an Easter breakfast served from 7:30 to 10:45 a.m.

Located in Newark, Ohio, St. John’s United Church of Christ is a long-established congregation offering various forms of worship including in-person, drive-in, and radio services. Founded in 1841, the church has undergone several denominational changes but continues to emphasize faith in the Trinity and teachings of Jesus.
