Licking County residents are set to vote on several initiatives, including a property tax replacement aimed at supporting children's services, fire protection, emergency medical services, and utilities aggregation. These measures will appear on the May 6 Primary/Special Election ballot.
According to a Licking County Board of Elections issues list, all county precincts will feature the property tax replacement on their ballots. The proposed 1 mill property tax would extend for 10 years to support Licking County Children Services. Additionally, there is a proposed constitutional amendment that would permit general revenue bond issues to fund public infrastructure capital improvements.
The issues list also includes separate votes on electric and gas aggregation in specific unincorporated townships such as Bennington, Burlington, Hanover, Hartford, Jersey, Liberty, Madison, Mary Ann, Monroe, Newark, Newton, and St Albans.
Seven areas within the county will vote on property tax additions, replacements, and renewals for fire protection and emergency medical services. The County Line Joint Fire District—overlapping with Knox County, Utica Village, and Washington Township—is requesting an additional 4.5 mills for five years for these services. Meanwhile, the West Licking Joint Fire District—which covers Pataskala, Reynoldsburg, Hebron Village, Etna Township, Harrison Township, and Jersey Township—proposes a 3-mill replacement property tax for fire protection and emergency medical services. The City of Heath is asking its residents to renew its existing 1 mill property tax for another five years for these services. Similarly, Madison Township seeks a five-year renewal of its 2.3 mill property tax.
In addition to Madison Township's 2.3 mill property tax renewal issue mentioned earlier in the issues list is a proposal for a 4-mill five-year property tax renewal affecting Hanover Village and Madison Township. Perry Township is seeking a three-mill property tax replacement over five years for fire protection and emergency medical services.
