Carson Combs has been appointed as the new planning director for Licking County, bringing over 20 years of experience in urban and regional planning, zoning administration, and land use policy. His hiring was announced on March 21.
"We are excited to welcome Carson to Licking County," said Randy Bishop, chairman of the Licking County Planning Commission, according to a joint news release with the Board of Commissioners. "His wealth of experience and forward-thinking approach to planning and development will be invaluable as we continue to enhance our communities, promote smart growth, and preserve the county’s unique character."
According to the news release, Combs most recently served as the planning manager for the City of Hilliard, Ohio. In this role, he contributed to shaping zoning ordinances, guided development projects, and ensured efficient planning processes. He previously worked as a senior planner for the City of Dublin, Ohio, and also as a zoning consultant providing expert analysis for municipalities and townships.
The news release further said that Combs has lectured at The Ohio State University's Knowlton School of Architecture. During his tenure there, he mentored future landscape architects in urban design and land use planning. He has received multiple awards from the American Planning Association and the American Society of Landscape Architects.
Combs holds a master's degree in Landscape Architecture and a master's degree in City and Regional Planning from The Ohio State University. His first day as planning director is scheduled for April 7.
