The Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District (MWCD) has announced a partnership with the OuterSpatial app to enhance outdoor experiences by providing trail users with integrated local trail information and resources. The announcement was made in a press release on March 12, 2025.

According to MWCD, the organization manages over 57,000 acres of land and water, offering diverse outdoor recreation opportunities. This includes 42 miles of hiking, biking, and equestrian trails, along with water trails at its lakes. To enhance visitor experiences, MWCD has partnered with OuterSpatial, a mobile app that provides real-time trail updates, detailed maps, event listings, and safety alerts. The app is designed to help users navigate MWCD trails efficiently and is free to download on both Android and iPhone devices through the Google Play Store and Apple App Store.

To introduce OuterSpatial, MWCD is hosting a kick-off event at Atwood Lake Park on March 29 from 1 to 3 p.m. Attendees can join guided hikes, explore trails independently, and enjoy free soup. The event will also feature door prizes and giveaways sponsored by Ultimate Upland and an opportunity to purchase a $5 souvenir soup bowl. Registration is encouraged to ensure enough food for all participants. The event will take place at the Atwood Park Event Center where visitors can also get assistance with downloading and using the app.

"We’re thrilled to partner with OuterSpatial to enhance the outdoor adventure experience for our community," said Pete Novotny, chief of recreation. "This collaboration represents a significant step in bringing more people into nature and to our lakes while helping them explore responsibly and empowering them with the tools they need to enjoy the trails to the fullest."

MWCD oversees flood reduction, conservation, and recreation across Ohio’s largest drainage system, spanning over 8,000 square miles and parts of 27 counties. With 16 dams and reservoirs, MWCD helps protect communities while preserving water resources. The watershed consists of three subregions—the Tuscarawas, Walhonding, and Lower Muskingum Watersheds—which converge at Coshocton before flowing into the Ohio River.
