The NEA Big Read continues to bring engaging and educational activities to the community with two exciting events on Monday, March 3: the NEA Big Read Teen Makerspace Activity and the NEA Big Read Interior Chinatown Adult Book Discussion.

Students in grades 6-12 will have the opportunity to create their own Yin Yang symbols during the NEA Big Read Teen Makerspace Activity from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County, located at 201 North Mulberry Street, Mount Vernon. Supplies will be provided for making unique symbols using materials like buttons, beads, and even food.

For adults, the NEA Big Read Interior Chinatown Adult Book Discussion led by Librarian Mike will take place in the Solarium at 6:30 p.m. The Mount Vernon Library invites book enthusiasts to join the conversation about Charles Yu's acclaimed novel, Interior Chinatown. Described by the National Book Award committee as "playful but heartfelt," the novel tackles Hollywood tropes and Asian stereotypes in a thought-provoking and masterful way. This discussion is part of the NEA Big Read program exploring the theme "Where We Live."

The NEA Big Read is a program of the National Endowment for the Arts in partnership with Arts Midwest. Both events on March 3 provide opportunities for learning, creativity, and connection.
